Beep Boop is a drum machine and synthesiser. Most of it never leaves your phone. The library is the one part that does, and this page says exactly what it holds.
What stays on your phone
The beats, melodies, tracks, sounds and settings you make are stored on your device, inside the app, and so is everything you keep in YOURS. So are your producer name and your figure. They are kept in this phone's keychain, so they stay if you delete the app and install it again, and move with an encrypted backup to a new phone. They are never sent anywhere until you sign in. Deleting the app deletes them, all but your producer name and figure. Printing a beat writes its notes into a code on the receipt, and that code holds nothing about you.
The microphone
Beep Boop uses the microphone only while you record a sound into a pad, and only after you allow it. The sound stays on this phone. It is never sent anywhere: a beat you print or post carries which pad was struck, never the sound you recorded.
Without an account
You can play, print, browse the library, open any receipt and keep receipts in YOURS without an account. Nothing is stored about you when you do.
Checking what you kept
To check on receipts you kept, Beep Boop sends their codes to the library, about once a day. Nothing about you is stored when it does. A receipt held while its reports are read is hidden from YOURS until the hold lifts. Only a receipt a moderator withdrew leaves your phone. If its producer took it down or left, your copy stays, with no name and no number.
When you sign in
Posting to the library, printing a whole track, reporting and blocking need an account, and so does carrying YOURS to a new phone. You sign in with Apple. We ask Apple for no email address and no name, so we receive neither. We hold a random account number, the date you joined, and the date you agreed to the posting terms, if you post to the rail.
What the library holds about you, once you sign in
- Your producer name and the number your figure is drawn from, once you sign in. They are shown with every receipt you post to the rail and every whole track you print, and anyone can see them. Another producer may have the same name, never with the same figure.
- The receipts you post. A receipt is the notes, tempo, swing, sound settings and pad hits of a beat, a melody or a whole track. It holds no audio, no title, no picture and nothing else about you.
- The receipts you keep in YOURS, so they follow you to a new phone.
- The producers you block, and the reports you make.
Whole tracks
A whole track is too large to print in one code, so printing it keeps the track on the library and prints a short code. The track is reachable only by its code unless you put it on the rail, and behind its code it shows your producer name and figure.
Who sees what
- Anyone with the app sees your producer name and figure, the receipts you put on the rail, and a whole track you print, by its code.
- Anyone with a short code sees that one receipt.
- Nobody sees what you keep or who you block.
Reports
When someone reports a receipt, a person reads it. They see the receipt, the producer's name and the reason, and never who reported it.
What we do not do
No advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Nothing is sold or shared. Beep Boop does not use your camera, photos, contacts or location, and uses the microphone only as described above.
Where it is kept
The library runs on Supabase, a database service, which keeps short request logs, including the network address a request came from, to keep the service working.
The notify-me list on this site
On beatmaker.au you can leave an email address to hear when Beep Boop is on the App Store. It is kept only if you tick the box that says so.
- What is kept: the address, the words beside the box you ticked, and when you ticked it. Nothing else: not your network address, your browser or the page you came from.
- Why: to send one email, on the day Beep Boop is on the App Store. The address is used for nothing else, and is never sold or shared.
- Where: in the library's Supabase database, which only we can read. The form passes through Cloudflare, which serves this site and, for one minute, counts how often each network address presses the key, so that no one can flood the list. Cloudflare does not keep that count.
- How long: until that one email is sent. To send it, the list is handed to an email service for that send alone. Then every address is deleted.
- To be removed: write to eugene@themostvaluableproduct.com from that address. It is deleted, and a one-way code of it is kept, so that no one else can put it back on the list. The email itself carries a way to be removed too.
Deleting your account
In LIBRARY, open YOURS and press DELETE ACCOUNT at the foot. Sign in with Apple asks you once more, so that Beep Boop's access to your Apple ID can be revoked. Your producer name and figure, every receipt you posted, what you kept on the library and your blocks are deleted from the library at once. Copies other people already kept stay on their own phones, with no name and no number. What you kept stays on your phone until you delete the app. Reports you made are kept so they can still be read, with nothing that leads back to you. If Apple cannot be reached, the account is deleted all the same, and you can remove Beep Boop from Sign in with Apple in your Apple ID settings. Your producer name and figure stay on your phone, as they were before you signed in.
Purchases
If you buy the monthly plan or the lifetime unlock, Apple handles the payment. We receive no card details or personal information from Apple, only whether the purchase is active.
Children
Beep Boop asks no one's age and holds no more about a child than this page describes.
Changes
If what Beep Boop holds ever changes, this page will say so before that version is released.
